LEECIFER'S MOES

I recently have been working with Leecifer on a project to produce a toy from a character from a bunch of his paintings he calls a "Moe". He was allready on his way a bit and had a mold made. I did not make this one... but, I took it over and made a bunch of the 1st round prototype editions of what will eventually become "Moe".

A handful of Moes made their debut at Dragatomi's "Not Vinyl" show and what's left over will be available here for a temporary amount of time.

We even got a few finished in time to let some local artists like Dril 1 , Jay222toys , and Chris Granillo paint a few for the show.

So radiohead is my favorite band on earth ever since I saw them on their kid A tour @ the hollywood bowl in la. ever since I have seen them at least once everytime they come to america. la, chula vista, coachella, 2 nights in a row at madison square garden, giants stadium, etc..

Thom Yorke the lead singer of radiohead's newest project...atoms for peace came to Oakland last week...i went online to buy tiickets opening morning and both dates sold out in the 5 seconds it was taking me to refresh...tix were showing up on craigslist for $250, and I was not really trying to pay all that..on the day of the show a couple hours before my boy bryan called me up with an extra ticket...god bless the universe...

Once again I hit up Dragatomi for second Saturday, Up to bat this month was Leecifer, Dril1, Brent Nolasco, Southern Drawl and Betso. Amazing art, amazing people. madness ensued, cheetos were eatin, dragotomi got bombed with graff... (kinda feel bad for being involved with that)...

I got to meet my man Spanky Stokes who came up for the show and happens to run one of he coolest sites in the world...Spanky posted this video..check it out...

WONDERCON

Friday started the Wondercon comic convention @ Mosconi center where they hold the Apple conferences. Leecifer and I rolled in to drop off some toys and visit some our favorite toy companies and shops, and cruise around to check out the event...

1st we stopped by Dragatomi's Booth where Jesse Hernandez was doing a signing for his wondercon release and getting filmed by Sony for a new video game he worked on called Mod Racers coming out for sony PS3.

After saying hello there, We bounced our way over to super 7 to say hello to Glenn and the peops at their booth...then I spotted this guy on the way over to Neon Monster...I need him...anyone want to get me a early xmas present ?

over @ neon monster there was a resin showcase curated by my man Jeremy...with rotocast resin and all kinds of cool stuff to check out...

next it was over to the Blamo toys booth where we got to check out one of Mikee's official outfits, (he had a few) and check out the response to Leecifer's run of customs for Blamo and wondercon...

We snuck out early on Friday and headed over to the Lebasse Gallery Show in Japantown to see some new work by some dope artists...

Then it was off to the Haight to check out D-Structure and the "Brown Bag" Show hosted by Rueben Rude...which actually featured some pieces by Rueben's parents!

After the loudness of the "Brown Bag" show we met back up with the dragatomi folks at their condo where real fun broke out...if you don't know about quiet fox or his evil twin fucking fox or talented feat that is the panda kick you better ask somebody...

after a awesome time with Dragatomi and crew I snuck back home for a few hours to work on Dexter my latest Munny...

Dexter cracked...don't ask...wanted to cry..went to sleep instead...

woke up a few hours later to start Day 2

dril1 came to scoop me up in the morning and of were back into the madness.

Dril1 and Jennie Wolfe @ super7 booth who both had some awesome work displayed @ the Dragatomi booth..

Got to meet the peoples at Kuso Toys who hooked me up with this awesome blank to customize for a show they are having this June in LA...much love thanks guys...

then i got to hang out with my buddy Rueben for a bit...Reuben is extremely talented and a super cool dude...He was one of the 1st guys to start coloring comics by computer and used to work for image comics...he took me over to their booth and introduced me to the artist Eric Larson. We chilled for a bit while I watched Eric PEncil and Ink a spiderman page...pretty spectacular

this was as close as I managed to get to the Zero friends booth while Mr. Pardee was there signing autographs. Allthugh I was a little upset they had Walrus Riders for 5$ less then I bought mine last week plus signed by the man himself...boo me for not waiting til wondercon...

after a some mexican food and a crazy day to of the con...it was over to super7 where people were lined up down the street to get in to see the new gargamel show.

and somehow through the madness I got to unbox a playwith a IPad on release day. still don't think I'm getting one.

after Super7 it was back down the street to the New People Gallery and the Vinyl Addiction Party hosted by Jesse Hernandez.

so many toy peoples showed up to this thing...the event had two showings of episodes of Vinyl addiction...one featuring Leecifer and Dril1 who I was sitting inbetween and Mikee from Blamo formally of KR who was sitting right in front of me...and roy miles who I got to chat with before and after the show...there were raffles and music and drunk Leecifers and cool peoples all around.

STUDIO VISIT WITH YOURS TRULY

so I figured I'd give some of my friends who don't get to come out and visit, a peek at my place and studio... I moved into here from my 3 bedroom down the street maybe about 6 months ago and I'm getting settled in enough to do so. still alot of work to go, but it's getting there...

R.I.P. JOHN NEAL

I used to walk past this fountain on market street in sf all the time...I still do. Only now when I walked past I am thinking of John neal.

John and I met around 13 or 14. He lived about a mile or less from my house by the Wawa. We became pretty tight through are formative impressionable years until I was about 19 or so. Around that time we started hanging in different circles. He always told me if I ever stopped being his friend he'd kick my ass, and he was a big dude... extreme at times...but in all ways...extremely intelligent..extremely charismatic... extremely one you want on your side when shit goes down... everything in excess. Our whole crew kinda rolled like that back then. Unfortunately like a couple others of us Neal never made it to a brighter path...

The last time I saw John neil was a block and a half from this fountain on market street in front of carl's Jr. in a NY Giants jacket that looked like it was from 81, selling packs of double A batteries. I grabbed him some lunch and we caught up for a bit. It's hard to hear about and even harder to watch when one reaches a point where hey can't come back from. A couple months later I received the news of John's death. This fountain was his final resting place...

so a bunch of people have asked me why I don't like friends with you....

so here it is...

1. due to chinese lack of rules and regs of manufacturing and them constantly trying to poison everyone with there products..a bunch of U.S. product and packaging laws were changed...

so now the sticker that comes in the wish come true blind boxes is now a violation and a choking hazard ...and must be removed before sale... in 40,000 some odd boxes...

so now I spend hours of my time helping strangeco remove these stickers....

and apparently that blue thing that folds up as small as the sticker is not a choking hazard...

I was on wooster today when I found out one of my favorite graffiti artists had just passed...

DARE tws was a swiss writer way ahead of the pack... even for the europeans, who are basically, most of the elite as far as I am concerned. I have been following Dare career since the first time I saw a piece of his in scribble magazine when I was like 13 or 14 years old. I always loved his style, and he was in no short supply of that. Dare will always go down as one of my favorite artists to ever hold a can. you will be missed...

Sigi von Koeding or Dare as he was better known was an artist that inspired countless people over his 23 year painting career. Myself included. He was a true graffiti artist yet still managed to be experimental and left of field. I remember Mare 139 telling me how incredible Dare's new paintings were once, and coming from someone like Mare, that's high praise indeed! He was a true master of letters, the way he shaped and twisted them was truly magical and he had a talent for style that few others will ever come close to! Dare was a legend whilst he was alive and traveling the world painting his pieces with expert precision and his status as a graffiti will no doubt rise to new heights following his death.
Dare lost his battle with cancer and died in hospital in his hometown of Basel, Switzerland on the evening of March 6th 2010. He will always be remembered by his fans and friends alike and his status as the Swiss graffiti Master is now truly cemented in our culture.

I broke my New years resolution again, allready, and headed out to Sacremento saturday to go check out the solo show by NREAZON at Dragatomi. I have driven through what the natives call "sac" several times coming to SF from the east or on the way to Tahoe, But never once stopped and got out the car. Never had a reazon until now. I bought a couple amtrak tickets for my boy fumando and myself and headed out on a mission to Sacremento.

After a little pregame baccardi and cranberry on the amtrak, first on the agenda, as always, was find a spot to smoke. what better place then in front of Arnold's house.. the capitol building of the great state of California.

Next it was off to Dragatomi. I first met Ray and Joanne of Dragatomi a year ago or so at the Rocketworld toy show in SF. Both nice people who told me about their little spot in Sacremento and I have been meaning to get up there ever since. My buddy Leecifer has a five man show here in a couple months and I will have a few pieces in a show here called " not vinyl" in April I believe.

Second saturday is artwalk night in "sac". as we walked the dozen or so blocks from the station, there were a ton of people out on the streets, there was a street or two blocked off due to some local talent rocking out. Street vendors, people lighting things on fire and all that fun stuff. as we go to the store conveniently right next door to a medical dispensary and a hydroponic gardening store, Ray was standing outside and greeted me before i even got to the door. I didn't even have to do one of those " hey , remember me ?".

The folks here at Dragatomi have an awesome spot. Sooo many toys stuffed on the shelves..it's great. They had some cool versions and color waves of stuff I hadn't seen yet. A few Dope Customs, like a giant apelike mega munny by Patrick Francisco... and of coarse the art of the lady of the night miss NREAZON.

NREAZON is a texas based female artist who had done a piece for our 3d canvas show. Since she was having a show in the area I definatley wanted to come show my support and also return her piece from the show.

After checking out her newest work and getting to sit down and chat with NREAZON, I realized this is one very cute, very talented, very busy girl.

She has just completed this whole solo show full of work and has another at the end of the month she is planning on having all new work for.

Aside from gracing many group shows and magazine pages her custom kicks are getting notice in google nexus tv ads. She also has her own line of apparrel and jewelry. The world better watch out for this girl!

So, after some more drooling over toys, a couple baccardi and pinapple juices with ray and a couple ciggarettes out front with Joanne, Fumando and I wandered off with some other friends to check out the show at upper playground and a couple other little participating shops on the artwalk. smoked another one for arnold and headed over to good ole denny's, where we consumed a couple baskets of pancake balls to soak up the liquor and made our way back to the train so I can get home to the studio to get back to work creating.

Thanks for the inspiration miss NREAZON. Awesome show, keep up the good work...I'll be paying attention. Thanks joanne and Ray and everyone over @ dragatomi for putting on a delightful show and being very hospitable hosts. thanks for having me and I'm sure I'll be up thee sooner then later.

I broke my new years stuff last night about not going to art openings or out too much for that matter...but for good reason.

I been trying to get together with Jay222 to work on a toy idea. I was going to hit him up the other day via blog or twitter or some other form of interwebbery when I saw a flyer for him in a show with a guy I was lucky enough to meet before he blew up, my buddy Mars1. I have been going to Mario's shows on both coasts for years and def had to go check out this one...

the show also featured work by Jesse Hernandez, who has done toys for Kid Robot, a cartoon called the "The Nutshack" , and is the host of a new show on cable about vinyl toys and the culture called Vinyl Addiction . Jesse had made it over to the toy show I put together at termina22 but I didn't get the pleasure of meeting him that night, so I was excited about that.

Damon Soule had some work up. He shows with Mars alot. The guy is incredible and another person I'd love to meet one day. Downtimer
, a graff artist who's brought his style into the canvas and gallery world, that's been a friend on my myspace for a good 6 years or something. I've always paid attention to his work but never had the pleasure of meeting. last but not least Nate1 a graff artist that holds a class called "sketching letters" at the the 1AM gallery in SF.

So, I pretty much had to go to this one. for some reason it was out in the burbs in a town called San Mateo instead of in the city... which didn't make sense at 1st. I called by friend Gregory of STRANGEco, whom I met through mario, if he could make it out the house to socialize a little and catch up with our old friend, and knew my buddy Leecifer knew downtimer, Jay222, Jesse and would love to get a chance to meet some of the other artists in the show. So, I went to the gallery website to get the address before leaving the house and realized why ths show was in the burbs..

It was the grand opening of DJ Qbert and Yogafrog's new gallery.

For those of you who don't know Q-bert is a DJ I been listening to since highschool. One of the most famous Dj's to come outta the bay area,,, and since I'm not into too much of this bay area crunk hyphy stuff or too much E40 or anything heiroglifics, pharcyde, and qbert is all the bay area really has for me as far as hip hop goes, depending on how long aesop rock stays out this way...Daily city right by san Mateo is where qbert and shortcut and scratch pickles and a talented bunch of Dj's came out of sometime in the 90's.

I put a pair of pants on that don't have paint completly all over them.( which are getting hard to find ) and jumped on bart with Leecifer to meet gregory who drove down to the show. it was the 1st time leecifer and gregory had been formally introduced which lead to all kinds of great toy conversation, being that Leecifer has the biggest collection of Strangeco toys I ever scene.

The show was awesome...

got too catch up with Jay222, who spent at least an hour or so having people take pics of these characters painted on the side of the building pretend to grab his ass...was pretty great...if I find anyone posting one online I'll grab it...watch what me and him put togther this year!

I got to hit up his black book too,, it's been a minute since _ did one of them...

David Chooong Lee and Olivia from Fabric8 Gallery made it out to the show, Got to see My buddy Brin Berliner who just sculpted the che skull bust for frank kozik..

I got to finally got to meet Jesse for a quick minute...I would of like to get a chance to chat with him a little more about his cartoon show project. I am working on a cartoon project myself, that i'll let everyone know about soon enough, and would loved to of picked his brain about that a little bit.

got to meet DJ Qbert, the man himself, who was greeting people at the door. The turntables that had in there, were indeed, pretty sick..

got to meet Oliver Vernon, Marc from fatlace , a bunch of other great people.. the art was great, music was great, people were great.

ot a little private sneek of the offices where there was plenty of nice glossy apple stuff ( which i always like) and a 3ft grey felt qee among other things. would of liked to snuck a pic of that...

afterwards, About thirteen of us rolled out to a restuarant ate drank and discussed art. I was thinking I was happy I broke my new years resolution for the night and I realized how extremely lucky I was to be sitting in this fancy Italian restuarant, and how at this moment I was probably surrounded by more artistic talent at one table at that moment then probably most of my time here on earth... not even just this friday night but almost everyone I've met since i been out here in the bay. It gets me very excited for the future and what's to come...this year and after...

IT CAME FROM SKULLBRAIN II

Leecifer invited me to be a part of the ICFSB2 show. which is a Japanese vinyl show that takes place at a toy store and company called super7 in japan town in San Francisco.

This was my second show of this year and my first japanese vinyl show ever. For people not familiar...Japanese ninyl toys as apposed to others are supposedly a bit softer, usually clear or tints of clear...and are normally pointy pr spiky toys that are most likely in the shape of some type of lizard or robot.

definatley not into it as much as the western vinyl but I can respect it and am honored to be invited to a show with artists like leecifer, drill1, brent nalasco, motorbot, bob congi and paul kaiju to name a few..

I ended up doing three pieces for this show.

and Leecifer was cool enough to invite me along the day before to come help open boxes and set up...I love doing that it's like a kid at christmas everytime...

the show was pretty cool...got to Meet Brian Flynn from Super7 and hang out with glenn and his wife afterwards, sold the blue LED lit zombie...probably let Super7 keep one of the ghosts and take the other home for my own collection.

OK, I changed my mind.. I don't want it...

I don't even know where to start, this thing is the touchscreen computer I been waiting for but runs on a phone os...

This device might be perfect for me, If i was under twelve or over fifty.

Is this our future ? Dumbed downed versions of programs called apps ? How awesome would it be to dip your fingers into a color palette and paint in photoshop? Instead, I got some app called brushes. Am I supposed to be happy cause it actually has multiple layer options? Where is the desktop and folders ? The abilties to run a real program?

have we really digressed to a dashboard operating system and widget applications ?

only syncing ? can I plug monitors into this thing ? can I use it like a big remote control for my itunes ? Or, as a wireless keyboard for my mac pro ?

Why is there no camera on this thing ?
Why no mobile video chat from the #1 mobile company in the world? Not even on the iphone? Why are we like 5 years behind the japanese with video cellphones ? We should be on mobile video multichat by now. I can look at all my beautiful pictures on my ipad but I can't take one ?

Now i have to admit the gaming and the google street view looks like it will be somewhat awesome, and, could possibly be the world's best new GPS/navigation device. But, games built for an ipod instead of some real graphics ? I think you could of done a little better then that. This thing is more of a toy and media player rather then a tool

and why are you so sleeping on letting us use the apple tv as a gaming system? There is all ready a contract with EA sports ...a bunch of games for mac available through your istores, Bluetooth capabilities for wireless controllers, Or, Maybe an app that turns your iphone or ipod touch into a touch screen bluetooth game controller, and, what appears to be a stronger os then your ipad. Your gonna focus on ipod touch games? Really ?

then i almost forgot what for me is probably the biggest kick in the ass...the fact that there is still no flash support, so I can not even look at my own site on the ipad.

So, This is all you have for us this year ? No monitor redesigns? why are you almost two years behind dell and hp in touchscreen monitors ? What about some bigger monitors or hdtv's ? it's been more then a year since you dropped computer from your name. Maybe touchscreen hdtv's. Maybe with a little appletv built right in that bad boy.

The lebowski's

So... I sculpted these two toys of the big Lebowski the multiversal group show at Art Basel, in miami florida last month... Art basel is probably the biggest art show in the united states and i was very proud to take part in this one..

anyway the figures seem to be getting a good response and i really like the way they turned out...so this year in the spirit of the Lebowski toys i am gonna produce fifty different television movie and music figures similar to these two guys...i have all fifty planned out and more i would like to do put i figured i set a modest goal and see if i can reach that first...

i don't wanna give them all away and keep most a surprise...but i'll tell ya I am working on two characters from fear and loathing in las vegas now and will be doing three characters from my all time favorite tv show the trailer park boys after that..to find out the rest your gonna have to stay tuned....

P.S.. and sorry kid robot but i might have to make a mold of your munny for that since i am not spending 1500 bucks on munnies to do all these things...

I have always loved toys...who hasn't ...loved heman...legos were my favorite,,,started to look at it as more of a collectible thing as pppsed to smething to destroy around the time mcfarlane started doing spawn characters...kept an eye when kidrobot 1st opened its doors in manhatten...and lve the fact that some of my favorite artist produce a small vynil affordable keepsake i can bring home and put on the shelf...

over the last couple years i have had the pleasure through my boy MARS1 1 of working with a designer toy company called STRANGEco ...the owners are 2 of the coolest people you'll ever meet..and through me deeper into the world and realm of the vinyl toy..

I starting making my first custom toys only less then a year ago when we started planning a big toy show at the terminal22 gallery last year...since i have been getting invited to al types of toy shows from munnies to qee's to japanese vinyl for a show for a show at Super7 in sf ...the guys there are pretty super themselves...so this year since fate is kinda pulling me that way anyway I am gonna dedicate a bunch of time to pumping out some serious toy action...

So it's 2010 a new year with new focuses. One of my best friends Evan quit his wall street gig to go on a year long journey around the world...which would be awesome but I am def not financially set to join in at this moment...but you can check out his travels and awesome pics here at www.chasingthesunwest.com a bunch of my other childhood chums are getting married and settling down...which is awesome as well but most likely not in the cards for me and definatley not in my plans for this year...one of the other most important people in my life just started walking again for the first time in over a decade with the help of some braces after getting into an accident when we were young...so in the spirit of what i called my extended family and some of the great artists I have met since moving to the bay area I am gonna take this year to do something quite the opposite of evan and lock my self in the studio and spend the whole year on myself...i have swarn off girls, bars, parties, art openings and social gatherings for the whole year..I have been sooo busy this past year ,,,involved in so many projects and working on a gallery here in oakland called terminal22. it's been super fun and I have met a ton of awesome people in the process...but it's all beena real lot of work and i have been pretty broke since we started it...and i kind of lost focus on my main reason to move back out to california was to relax and make art...

I have had an account on blogspot for years and never posted any thing til now... I am gonna use this to document my year of seclusion and see what ideas and art come out of it...first thing on the agenda will be updating my website taskoner.com which has not been touched in a year and a half.
